Bigger working dogs push harder, and they push with the whole chest. At 75 cm the ball is too wide to get a jaw around, so the dog has to shove it. Most of them still try the jaw first, which is exactly why the shell is ballistic fabric and not something lighter.
The original herding ball has been built in this form since 2021, designed in San Francisco. An inflatable inner ball with a needle valve gives it the shape. The ballistic cover over the top takes the teeth and the claws.

Replaceable inner ball
Two parts, replaced separately. Large dogs are usually harder on the cover than on the inner ball, but when the inner ball is the part that goes, we sell the 75 cm one by itself.
Is 75 cm the right size?
75 cm fits larger working dogs of 51 to 62 cm at the shoulder: Australian Shepherd, Labrador, Golden Retriever, Boxer, Husky and similar builds. Measure from the ground to the top of the shoulder blade, not to the head. Between two sizes, take the bigger one, or use the size guide.

The needle valve holds air longer than a standard push valve. Filling takes longer too, and at 75 cm hand pumping gets tedious fast, so a compressor is the sensible option.
